I have realized from experiencing a semester in ERW that we
not only have bettered our writing skills but Ms. Fletcher has allowed us to
create opinions about subjects that we would never choose to research
ourselves. This technology take over issue has really given people the motivation
to buy into the ERW portion of the class. By giving us a subject that we want
to debate, it allows us to enjoy the required writing assignments. We also get
to have an opinion about the topics we discuss. Our thoughts and comments are
encouraged to be expressed. I believe this is a great way for us students to
learn because this is one of very few classes that allow us to have an opinion.
For example, ERW is the only class that has a Socratic Seminar that lets us openly
discuss the subjects we are learning with our peers.
I really agree with this Rachel, I wanted to post something similar but now that would seem repetitive and boring. :(
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you Rachel. I think it's very different for an English class to debate the way we do in ERW. I think it gives us students more ways to think, which comes very helpful when writing papers and essays. I believe that the more debate and conversations that we engage in, the more perspectives we see. Therefore, in our essays and papers, we have more opinions and ideas to write about it.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with you because the Socratic Seminar really opened my eyes and it also helped expand my knowledge towards 1984 and its connections to today's world. As I was listening to my piers' opinions I began to develop my own view points from what they said. The Socratic Seminar was extremely useful and I better understood the novel.

ReplyDeleteI as well agree with this because the Socratic Seminar allows us to express ourselves as individuals, which I think is a really good thing. Also, it helps us challenge our peers ideas, create ideas, listen carefully, & allow us to think more on a particular subject. The Socratic Seminar really helps me in ERW & as an individual.
