Phones or nah ?

Reading 1984, I have noticed that one of the main topics is the idea of privacy and that the people of Oceania have none at all. So can we say that our society today is very different than that of 1984's? In a way it is because we have more freedom to do what we want, when we want and are able to freely express our emotions without being punished for them. But, I think that 1984's idea of telescreens is extremely similar to that of our modern day mobile cellphones. The point of a telescreen is to track what the people of Oceania are up to every minute of the day. In the article "That's no phone, that's my tracker", Peter Mass talks about why our phones should be called trackers. Mass brings light to the fact that the government is able to track our every movement through our cell phones and when we post our public information on social media it makes it that much easier to know what we like/dislike or where we might be in the upcoming future. But what I really want to know is, will people be ready to give up their cellphones that they use for so many things. In my opinion, I don't believe people would be down for that because I know people who can't live without their phone. What are your opinions? Would you give up your phone to get rid of government surveillance or are you okay to risk your privacy?

  1. If our world was like 1984 and we had cellphones that tracked and watched us, my answer to giving it up to stop the government from watching us is yes. I would give up ever single cellphone in my family so I couldn't be watched by the government in anyway. People need their privacy, everyone needs times for themselves, people can't be watched at every moment of every waking day. So yes I would get ride of my phone and any other tech that could watch me if our world was like 1984.

  2. If I were to live in a society in which the government were to watch my every move and listen to my every conversation there will be a 100% chance of me giving up any type of electronic to get rid of the access of them watching over my family and I. Privacy is a key element of living a healthy life. Taking that away from someone could result in death. The government in 1984 needs to just let people live their lives.
