Phones or not?

Are our phones really phones? Plenty of people believe that they should not be labeled as phones but as somewhere else. Due to the many of other things a "phone" does, it's losing its name as a phone to many people. Phone's these days allow us to be tracked, they play music, other means of communication, social media and other. The majority of cellphone users rarely make phone calls now according to charts. The activity we did in class with "That's No Phone, That's My Tracker" opened my eyes and showed me there are many other usages of my "phone" that I use, which is taking away the name "phone" and is labeling them as a "tracker". I'm starting to buy into calling it a tracker, however I still believe a phone has a usage for a phone because you're still able to make phone calls if needed.

  1. I agree completely with you, and we've become to accustomed to calling a phone, "a phone" that it would be to hard to ever stop calling it that. But I don't think that changing the name of a phone to a tracker would even begin to explain it's capabilities. The way I see it we might as well begin to call it a weapon because it can also be very damaging to humans for many reasons.
