Musings and Whiteboard Shots

Pressure comes from everywhere. Our society is always urging us to act or look a certain way. The articles we read in class, discuss prejudice in our society and how they affect our behavior. Our society fills us with pressure causing us to be self-conscious about how we look, speak, and act. Even though it seems like the world is against us, we need to stand up against the pressure and realize our individuality. These articles we have been studying express that it is not right for others to make you feel like you don’t belong because of your differences. As we read these authors have written about how the world pressures them to be someone who they aren’t. Eventually, they write about how they fought against these pressures to become themselves. These writers’ stories are relatable because we can be influenced by society just as easy as anyone else. But how can we all stay true to ourselves with all the pressure coming at us from our own lives?

  1. I couldn't agree with you more, there are a lot of pressures in the world and it is difficult to stay true to yourself or even know how to. Finding your individuality is hard but necessary to grow as a person.

  2. I totally agree with you Rachel. It's hard to truly be ourselves with all the judgement and hate going through our society nowadays, but it's the only thing we have left of ourselves. I personally think that the articles and discussions we have in class make it easier for many of us individuals to think about our society and spark a new perspective in our minds.

  3. I completely agree with you. I think in order to stay true to ourselves we must train ourselves to ignore what other people are pressuring us to do. Of course it's hard because many of us don't want to let our friends and families down and we want to meet their expectations, however, I think everyone could take a moment to stop and think about what would be best for themselves and not for everyone else. In order for us to hold on to our individual identities, we must think for ourselves and just try to block out the negative pressure that is constantly directed at people our age.

  4. As Austin said it is hard to be ourselves when being judged. Everyone just trys to conform with everyone so that they arent put down. It is really sad that no one can just do what they want to do.
