Group Essay

In this group project, we are in a group of three and we have to put together an essay regarding a topic of our choice.  The each of us have to have a paragraph written in the essay. As well, we must work together to complete an introduction and a conclusion paragraph.  We are required to present our essay during class later on this week; for example, the people in my group are Jacob, Francisco, and myself, so we have been chosen to present on Friday.  As of right now, we aren’t yet finished because we still need to work together on the introduction and the conclusion paragraphs.  To be honest, it can be quite challenging doing this at home because we aren’t face to face and we may not explain things as well as we would like to as if we were sitting all together in the same table.   I have to say that this is a good challenge for us students to work as one.  In this essay, the three members of the group must communicate between each other and make decisions regarding this essay.  I enjoy working in a group because we get to collaborate with other members of the class and make an essay.  It is really interesting to see other 2 or 3 different types of writing put into one piece of work.  I will say that in my group, we had some different styles of writing and we still need to work together on making the essay smooth and flow throughout the essay.  This in my opinion, is the challenging part of the essay because when you are writing an essay by yourself you kind of already know what you are going to state in it.  On the other hand, working in a group of three, you don’t know what the other two members of the group are going to state and it can be very challenging to make things work between the five paragraphs.  Ms. Fletcher said it best on regarding the first draft, “It’s going to be an ugly baby.”  For my group our first draft was an “ugly baby,” and I’m sure that many other groups had an “ugly baby.”  There are things about this essay that many people will like and dislike.  In the end, I enjoy doing this collaborative essay because it challenges the group of three to make the essay flow and smooth, while combining different styles of writing.

  1. I enjoyed working with others in this collaborative essay. I did one last year in my English class so I knew what to expect. For me it was easy to get ideas flowing because we had three brains working together. We all wrote our ideas out so it was nice to be able to flow off each other and use our individual knowledge to throw in different points. I think this essay was a great learning experience.
