Season

As some as you know, I play soccer for Mayfair.  I am really excited for this upcoming season, which starts on Tuesday.   My teammates and I have high aspirations for this season.  Our team will mostly consist of returning seniors, which means that we will have much experience on our team.  Coming into this season, the team and I are very focused and determined to do very well this year.  Our main goals this season is to win the Milk Bottle again against Lakewood High School, win Suburban League, and do well in CIF.  Last year’s Milk Bottle game was very intense, with much tension and high emotion played by both teams.  The game came down to penalty kicks and we ended up winning the game.  On my two previous years on Varsity, we really didn’t have a chance to win Suburban League; however, in this season we have a really good chance of winning Suburban League if we stay focused and determined throughout the whole season.  Unfortunately, last season we didn’t advance to CIF because of our conflict on the last game of the season.  It is very possible for us to advance to CIF this season.  In addition, we leave to Paso Robles on Thursday for a tournament out there.  This trip is meant for team bonding but as well getting the job done and winning the tournament out there.  Last season we went to Paso Robles as well and it was very fun and a great experience with the team.  We joked around, had fun, and played well in Paso Robles last year.  Hopefully, we can do better than last year and win the tournament.  I am looking forward to this great trip with my teammates.  Our team has many skilled players who can touch and pass the ball very well.  We want to implicate that very much in our style of play this season.  If we do this we will maintain possession of the ball very much and look to create many chances to score.  As well, we are very stacked in all positions on the field, we have great goalkeeping, strong defenders, skilled midfielders, and clinical finishers up top which are the forwards.  We have worked very hard in the off season to prepare ourselves up for this season.  I am very excited for my last high school season, hopefully we can do very well and have fun along the way.

The point?

What's the point of doing something if you don't get recognition? That question might make me sound selfish or greedy but it is what it is. If I put blood, sweat, and tears into something I expect someone to say at least "good job". The only exception would be if it were my actual job. If the task was something I knew I asked for blood, sweat, and tears then a good job wouldn't be necessary; however, going above and beyond is a different story. Sometimes even a good job isn't needed, just knowing that someone believes in you and is there for you. I usually find myself needing others to give me a little boost in the right direction. I'm still young, I still need to depend on people, is asking for a little back up sometimes so hard?

AF: The Latest -- Three Things

Kids, I just have a few things to say -- first, the blog is open again and waiting for you to write 1 Post and 2 Comments about the "Rhetoric of Op-Ed" articles and ideas.  You can write about any of the articles (Rifkin, Braithwaite, Yong), or you can write about rhetorical appeals and how these appeals function in the texts, situations and conversations that we encounter.

TWO:  I want you to start writing your rhetorical precis for "Hooked by a Myth."  Have a draft on Thursday, and a final on Friday.

THREE:  Also, start looking for your own Op-Ed piece.  Good places to look are the Op-Ed sections of
  1. The Los Angeles Times
  2. The New York Times
  3. The Washington Post
  4. The Wall Street Journal
